Shaun Wright-Phillips signs with Gunners.
With the regular season drawing to a finish, the Gunners are preparing for the postseason. While S.C. Canada made the headlines by grabbing Didier Drogba and Gilberto, Capital District successfully signed Shaun Wright-Phillips following the day's 3rd bidding war. It didn't come easy as the the club had to fend off a strong approach from fellow top of the table club, Gold Coast.
"We were interested in all three, but Wright-Phillips fit what we needed the best," General Manager Michael Wilson said as Wright-Phillips practiced with the club. "He's match fit and ready to contribute now, and was the most economical purchase for us of the three."
To make room for Wright-Phillips, the club has released Maruo Manotas. Signed earlier in the year, Manotas struggled to find regular playing time. Aiming for a deep run in the postseason, the Gunners felt Wright-Phillips was a better fit for the club.

Gunners continue to tweak roster
With the playoffs approaching, the Gunners aren't resting as they chase Gold Coast for the Honors Trophy. Capital District have announced the signing of three new players who will be looked upon to help the Gunners' hunt for postseason glory. Winning his league rights over the weekend, the club announced the official signing of newcomer, Lucas Melano. Capital District have also signed Charles Eloundou and Andrew Dykstra.
"Though Stefan (Frei) is improving, we don't want to take any chances and Andrew will start in net for us this week," Manager Kevin Connor answered about the club's goal keeping situation.
"Chris has had several great spells at the club," General Manager Michael Miller said. "But there's still no time frame for his recovery, and we're at a time when we need all hands on deck. While Charles won't play next week, we are hoping he can be a key reserve for us during the postseason."
When asked about the club's recent bidding wars, Miller replied, "Even with three of a kind, it's hard to beat someone who holds a straight. It's disappointing to lose out on (Giovanni) Dos Santos, but we did and we need to move on. Lucas is an intrigue prospect and is in a great spot. Who better to link up with Diego (Valeri)."

Gunners look to bolster attack.
Overshadowed by the record breaking bidding war for Sebastián Jaime, Capital District quietly added Luis Bolaños. While not as attractive a name as Jaime's, the Gunners are looking to bring in players to help a roster rocked by injuries this year."We had hoped to bring Bolaños and Jaime, but the price was just too high for Jamie," General Manger Michael Miller said at practice. "We hoping Bolaños gives us an another option as we head in to the playoffs."
To make room for Bolaños, the Gunners have cut Chris Tierney. "We've been struggling with injuries all season. Makes you wonder if we're cursed," Miller joked. "But we wish Chris well. He did a great job in the short time he was here, but the knee looks like it's going to keep him out for longer than we can afford."
